ANFAL is the National Association of Alcohol and Spirits Manufacturers and dates back to the 1940s. Back then, the government first enacted legislation mandating that producers age spirits for at least a year before selling to the public. Manufacturers joined forces to establish the largest aging facility in the country, known as the Central Añejadora Guatemalteca, S.A. Other facilities soon followed to meet the needs of each producer and satisfy market demand.

In March 1947, a year after they first began meeting, producers officially established the association for alcohol and spirits manufacturers in Guatemala to gather the country´s most prominent and important producers. ANFAL has its roots in those early days and is now proud to hold the position of Vice Chair for Central America and the Caribbean at OriGin –a global coalition of producers with geographical indications working to ensure protection worldwide and to promote geographical indications as tools for sustainable development.
